This is not true. I recently built the pcmcia 3.0.9 package on my OmniBook,
using the most recent version of glibc (prior to 2.1, that is). My machine's
set of installed packages is kind of haphazard, since I started with a RH5.0
distribution and have progressively upgraded almost all the packages, while
building my own kernels from source code (currently running 2.2.2-ac5).
