[svlug] Linux in many more press releases

I'm not sure if word has been getting around or if this would have happenned
anyway... But just ten days after SVLUG started a home-page newsfeed of all
press releases and news on Yahoo Business News that contain the word "Linux",
average daily traffic on the topic has more than doubled. It was 1-2 per
day before we started. Now it's 2-4 per day and there were 7 on Monday!
I wonder if word like this gets around in the PR circles and they're
deliberately referring to Linux more often. "If you mention Linux on your
press release, SVLUG will link to it automatically." (Though maybe only
briefly if a lot of Linux-related press releases show up the same day and
scroll it off the list.) Or maybe our cron job's every-20-minute searches
for Linux on Yahoo triggered it for higher demand. In any case, this is
good - I like the thought that more organizations could be taking advantage
of this by mentioning Linux. I also like the thought that SVLUG could have
yet again been a catalyst for change in favor of Linux.
Then again, Comdex/Enterprise could also have contributed to that.
(And SVLUG was there too.) We'll have to keep an eye on the situation
to see if the trend continues.
If this keeps up, I think I might release the code for other Linux user
groups to do the same thing on their web sites. Even though it would steal
some of SVLUG's thunder, it would be a big win for Linux.
