[svlug] more on posting guidelines

let me have my vote (for one and only absolute truth regarding
post/crossposting etc):

BCC vs. CC: there are different kinds of post that someone might want to
cross post:
    1) it's something that each list might be interested in induvidually
(e.g. an announcement of a bay area event for bay area based lists)
    2) the topic lies in specific area where all the 'topic areas' of all
crossposted lists overlap (e.g. installfest organized by two bay area linux
lists)

I believe it's quite clear that BCC: is more appropriate for 1) and CC: is
more appropriate for 2). everybody should use h{is|er} own judgement,
instead of having one rigid rule.

private posts: it's quite obvious if you are the only receiver of the post
or not. I find it tedious and redundant to indicate it in post text.

CC vs. subscribing to all participating lists: rick suggested that if
javilk wants to know the info he is deprived by using bcc instead of cc he
(javilk or anybody else in that situation ) should subscribe to given list
(if I understood correctly). that's nonsense, for few reasons - one is that
one might only be interested in the given thread/discussion, not in anything
else in the mailing list), even more important is the fact that one would
not know about the other list (since it's address was in bcc), how could one
cannot see.

yacc related problem (read: yet another CC related problem): when I reply
to all I send a message to both sender (who is generally (always?) on the
svlug mailing list) and to svlug, resulting in two identical post received
by sender. people do it quite often. what good does that do? for example
last post I've read on this particular theme: it is send to javilk (who is
on the list) to list and to ray (who might or might not be on the list). if
ray is on the list then he gets two messages, if he's not on the list then
why does he gets the post - is that not the much despiced cross posting? I
don't really care if he does or does not get the message, but why didn't you
used the bcc for ray, rick (the message was send by rick moen), after all
it's your idea that ONLY bcc should be used. [editor's note: this one last
thing is just a nit picking of the author and can be safely left out of
message; it's nnot ment really seriously]
