No, you don't. Just compile the new egrep into /usr/local/bin, mv the
old binary to *.INSTALL, and symlink from the old binary location to
the new one (in case anything looks for the old binary's exact filespec).
If RPM thinks its original binary is still in /usr/bin, well, no harm
done. Save yourself a serious pain in the ass, this way -- and you
haven't burned any bridges, if it becomes necessary to un-do the work.
