Amanda used here also successfully across platforms (Linux backing up
SunOS and cross-versa). we have one legacy box still running 2.2.26 and
the latest 2.4.1 beta running on a linux, all very smooth, quiet and
efficient.

as for restoring: it's a little slower than a backup that keeps detailed
databases, but it's not a hurdle if you don't restore more than once a
month or so (I'm happy to say that we needed those backups only 3-4 times
in the last 2 years).

btw, works great with a DDS2 changer I got from CSC (www.corpsys.com) so I
only need to change a magazine once in 12 days, and cycle cassettes once a
month... those drives are now available at CSC ranging $350-$500 (plus
magazines)
