Did you see it being started at boot time?
When is the last sendmail activity you see in your syslog?  Does this
correspond with your reboot?
Do you see any syslog messages that indicate that it might have crashed?
If you are using RH 5, do you have the "/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S80sendmail"
symlink?  If not, have you tried "/sbin/chkconfig sendmail on"?  If it
is there, does "/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart" successfully [re]start
sendmail?

...many other questions which could be asked.
