I won't go into details on log messages others have pointed out, however,
I managed to troubleshot one problem with editing rc.local and other
bootup scripts. A line with "sleep 60" gave me enough time to read or
write down the message from the screen. That's useful because the system
does not (!)  write everything into messages and dmesg logs during boot. 
You can insert a new two lines script in rc3.d directory with the number
that is following whatever you suspect is giving you a hard time.

Well, I'm back in business after the office move to a temp location and
after the ISP configured the router correctly.  It took them only 4 days
to do it. They had too much turkey in between :-) 

I also rebuilt the firewall due to a bad drive and had other fun.
