Well, I read your exposition on the subject once before, so I guess
I should have added the caveats: within cost etc.  I do have uses
for serial port #2 and the higher speed internal modems are still more
cost effective albeit with the disadvantages you quote.  Though I, ALSO,
appreciate leds. External modems have the drawback that they make great
boat anchors after their 6 months of useful, i.e. before being
superseded, life.

Still if there were a decent alternative in terms of cost for obtaining
an external modem I would be definitely be interested.
