[svlug] Which Linux Distribution for AMD K6-2 (MB: PA 2013)

Given how basic and unadorned Slackware is, these are surprising problems to
encounter. Before I suspected the CPU, though, I'd consider possible
problems with a floppy drive or memory. To that end, a couple of questions:
1. My copy of the Slackware 3.2 (aka Slackware 96) CD set doesn't have a
bootdisk called barepnp.i . Did you get that from some unofficial source?
Might your copy of it be bad (a CRC error suggests to me a bad download)?
2. With respect to the Slackware 3.4 try, is it possible that you attempted
to make a 3.5" bootdisk using the 5.25" bootdisk image? That would cause the
floppy to exhibit the geometry error you are seeing (the LI), and it's the
only way I can think of to create such an error from a floppy drive (we
usually see it with hard drives).
3. The official Slackware 3.2 CD should support boot from CD-ROM. Have you
tried this?
4. The second failure (the one that got as far as "Uncompress memory") is
the most puzzling to me. You mentioned that the m'bd runs at 100 mHz. Are
you using fast enough memory?
5. Am I right in assuming that you are making the bootdisks on a different
machine than the one you describe? If so, might one of the two floppy drives
be bad?
