[svlug] Terminal Logins

I have attached an old VT320 terminal to one of my computers,
verified that I can talk to it via the minicom terminal emulator, and by
echoing txt to /dev/cua0.
As per other materials, I have added the following line to my
/etc/inittab:
12:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty ttyS0 DT9600 vt100
However, after doing an "init q", I don't seem to be getting any
log-in screens or anything else on the terminal. I can still echo to it
and see the results, but I do not get any login requests no matter how
many times I press the carriage return or any of the other keys.
And having done this, and tried cua0 instead of ttyS0, I now find
that I can no longer echo text to it, even after going back to the ttyS0.
It seems to me that this has worked for me in the past... Is Turbo
Linux 2.0 different? Am I missing something? Do I really need to do a
power cycle to get this to work?
