just been thinking about this as getting some time to read the reports.
One question keeps going through my head. If Sun buys Netscape's server
market, which is only logical, then what happens to Netscape's commitment
to Linux? Aol's part is mainly to keep the users in mind and boost the
browser's market share (which inturn makes it filthy rich), while Sun
basicly does all of the programming. At least, this is how I see it. Now,
if Sun does this, then to me Netscape's image changes completely. It
might get more powerful and popular in the java and Unix arena, but I
think some of its quality will be neglected, and again, the support for
Linux somewhat drops. There will be support, and it will stay open-source
merely because it would be a PR kill to close it again, but I doubt the
software (browser & server) will be Linux enthusiastic. Maybe Sun would
keep it like that, just to help popularize UNIX in the masses, but
Solaris would be where Netscape would have its most attention from now
on. responces?
