The trick is, though, that comparing chips' performance at the same 
clock speed can be misleading, if (as is the case here) there's a
substantial price difference.

Remember, the aim is best overall system performance for a given 
price point.  So, a very cheap CPU might be a better choice even
if it _did_ have (e.g.) weak FPU, if the cost savings can be
fruitfully applied to system bottlenecks elsewhere.

The new Celerons could be a real boon -- depending on pricing.  With
its heat output and defective L2 cache, the old one made sense only
on gamers' machines (because of strong FPU).
