At the defense of glibc, it has incremented the version numbers, but
personally speaking, backwards compatibility is a pain. Look at all the
trouble it has gotten the PC(x86) world into, and yet, it is probably
their source of success. Ah, what a double edged sword backwards
compatibility is...
