Well, the problem with this is that Linux is becoming more and
more a platform for proprietary software, and many vendors aren't
going to be happy with the idea that they're going to have to hop
along with Linux's every update. This is one of the reasons we _have_
version numbering for shared libs, and why we keep multiple versions
around.
