Ask yourself:
  What does "which xdm" return?

It's actually just a creatively lazy way to avoid having to (1)
open rc.local in a text editor, (2) go to the bottom, (3) append
the new line "/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm" at the bottom, and (4) save & exit.

Could be Red Hat, or could be just the XFree86 version Red Hat happens
to recently ship.  Not sure.
