It seems to me that 2.0.7pre6 is _also_ alpha.  The production version 
appears to be 2.0.6.

Oh?  ftp.gnu.org has 2.0.6 as its latest, as of yesterday.

Still seems to me that keeping libc.so.5.4.46 plus a couple of symlinks
(and ditto for 4.x) is precious little system clutter for the ability to 
run arbitrary Linux binaries.  Just my opinion.
