Since "Mean, Stone Cold Rick Moen" (ahem ;) ) won't give Scott some help, I'll
throw a bone out on a topic I'm familiar with:
> 3DFX Banshee? Is this the same as the 3DFX Voodoo stuff? It will be
> compatible with all of the 3dfx games right?
> Will that Diamond Monster Fusion card work in X? I dont mean will the 3dfx

Daryll Strauss is the official maintainer of all Linux-related 3Dfx good-ness.
He ports Glide, and writes the XServer for the Rush. At his site at
http://glide.xxedgexx.com/ you will find these things, and this tidbit:
"Voodoo Banshee - Not yet supported, but work is underway. My status page may
include some information. "
Daryll is on vacation right now, and is the only person maintaining Glide
because of an NDA he had to sign. None of us can help him. There is no source.
3Dfx won't agree to help SciTech work on a driver for their Display Doctor for
Linux, either.
Contrast this with NVidia, who has several excellent ex-SGI people like
Michael Gold and Mark Kilgard, who have released the source to an XServer. And
I can tell you that their will be accelerated Mesa support in a few months,
from at least two sources. (Makes me tingly.)
Anyway, there is no Banshee X Server, but supposedly you can use the VesaFB
X-Server with it marginally well. You will have no 3D acceleration. You should
start reading
3dfx.glide.linux on news.3dfx.com
where this is regularly discussed.
Me, I'm buying a Nvidida TNT. Did you see Brian Hook's recent announcement
that the Intel i740 (of all cards) beats the Voodoo2 on preliminary
Quake3:Arena benchmarks? Not to mention the awful color quantization you're
going to get from 3Dfx cards and their color depth.
