Part of the problem is also Linux's fault. The halt-on-idle causes the CPU
to shut down when it is not doing anything. When you then get ethernet
traffic or move the mouse, the CPU suddenly wakes up with every packet or
with every byte from the mouse. If can cause buzzing or hissing. You can
see if that is the problem by turning off the halt-on-idle.
I THINK it is append="no-halt" but I will have to look it up. THis is
pretty close though.
The price will be a higher electric bill and a hotter computer. Probably
shorten the life of the CPU and power supply.
