I'm already using serial console support (on a back-patched 2.0.x kernel).
It works well; however if someone, for example, leaves a floppy in the
drive, the machine stops mid-boot cause of some error encountered
durring POST or someone types 'halt', then your stuck if your not sitting
in front of the machine. Idealy (and I do this with the sparc and cisco
hardware) you just plug up your serial console port to a terminal server
then you can telnet into the terminal server from anywhere and its like
being there. Another use is in network devices (routers for example)
where there is no good reason for a video console. cant do this with
average intel hardware.
