They are not that well understood. We only have conjecture as to how
they really moved the blocks. Yes, much IS known, where many of the
blocks came from, POSSIBLE construction techniques, etc. There was a nice
PBS NOVA episode on this, in which they proposed one _possible_ method.

(The level of planning required to create the pyramids must have been
rather extensive. No they probably didn't use project management software
on Linux. Is there any good project management software for Linux?)

However, far more interesting, is the Sphinx. Although it is part of
some of the pyramid complex, Archaeologists are not sure who build, though
they believe that the Egyptians may have resurfaced it after several
millennia of wear. Some suspect the original may be 12,000 - 15,000 years
old, dating from when the Sahara was grassland.

I think PBS NOVA did a good bit of it, so did National Geographic.
Other information may be found at the Rosicrucian Museum in downtown San
Jose, California. http://www.rosicrucian.org/ Wonder if they could be
persuaded to run Linux. Anyone want to plan an outing there? We could
probably get a group rate, solve a few mysteries, and walk away more
mystified than ever at what an immense task building the pyramids was.
