Define "clear answer".

C'mon, Rafael.  What specifically do you consider mysterious?  Their 
culture was peculiar and rather alien to the modern mindset, but 
their construction techniques are quite well understood.  

Are you asking me to do your library research for you?  (If so, I
sincerely hope you're offering at least a couple of pints of Guinness.)

That's nice, but -- whether true or not -- isn't visibly relevant 
to the subject matter.
