It takes a lot of babysitting on busy sites. I was contracting to do
some admin on a large world-wide corporate network. Mail problems are a
major issue there. I am taking about a network where thousands of
emails/hour pass through their main mail gateway. Queue management is a
big deal. They have mail going to every place on earth with internet
connectivity and not all places are reachable all the time. Maybe a router
is down in eastern Europe or a cable problem in Asia. Exim just handles
these situations better. The mail that can get through gets through
without being hindered by mail that can't.
