Thanks for forwarding this.

Dan F -

Sorry, you're right, I forgot to mention things like the coffee. Omissions
were not intentional - the collection of several people's reports was
supposed to complement each other's approaches and recollections. My
article was already very long so it probably wouldn't have been good to
add much more.

Anyway, yes, let's say it for the record that you went out of your way
to be nice and helpful. Thank you. (I'll add this one as an addendum
on the Tea Party web page so it will be seen with the others.)

BTW, one of Marc's photos (which are now up) does document the coffee,
showing Brian Chrisman taking a cup.

So for the image of Microsoft, yes you made a difference. But please realize
that some things won't be completely mitigated. With Microsoft's SEC 10-K
filing (listing Linux as a competitor) and the leaked "Halloween Documents",
it's a competition.

But your friendly approach directly changed the outcome on Wednesday. You
had seen on our web page that we intended to "be cool" and you decided to
be cool too. That impressed us. Even with the diversity of backgrounds
of people in our group, you earned the respect of all of them, and many
readers on the Internet a little later that evening.

So it was a "big step for Dan" after all. You made good PR for Microsoft
when it, frankly, could use it.

Let's continue the contact we've established. As you asked at the party,
you're welcome to visit an upcoming SVLUG meeting if you're in town on a
1st Wednesday of the month.
