agetty is pretty old. While old-time (and lazy) Slackware users like me may
still use it, most of the Linux world doesn't, it seems. Anyway, from
Alvin's response to your message, it looks like mgetty or uugetty *should*
work the same as agetty with respect to dialing in and out. So perhaps the
next thing to ask is: what is the actual problem you are experiencing? What
app fails to dial out, under what circumstances, and with what error message?

Also, what does the mgetty "respawn" line in /etc/inittab look like? Does it
perchance use the "-b" option?
