Hi,
I got some Email feedback about my page, and one of the Emails is of
interest to everyone (posted with the author's permission):

Subject: Kudos to the Silicon Valley Linux User's Group.

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that I was
impressed to say the least with your group. Kudos on the cue at the
Microsoft party. My impression was vary good. I felt everyone involved was
there to have a good time and promote the Linux OS. Admittedly I showed up
after hearing from a friend, that belongs to your news group, that you would
be handing out free copies of Linux. I lost a job offer because I had no
Unix OS experience. Even though I did not get my picture taken I wanted to
let everyone in the group know how friendly you were and I felt very much at
home and welcomed by everyone. Being a newbe to the Unix based OS I had,
what I felt to be a lot of naive beginner questions. I have to say that
everyone answered them with enthusiasm and wanted to help me learn as much
as possible. I felt that the protest was quite and orderly, and that your
mission statement was well received by everyone. At least everyone not
affiliated with Microsoft anyway. Keep up the good work. I was also
wondering if anyone provided work shops outside of the install fests to new
users on how to use Linux, i.e. learning basic grep commands and getting
around in the operating system. Any helpful hints would be much appreciated.

BTW, I told him the following:

I don't think there is anything like that. Honestly, first basic unix
commands, nothing beats a good unix book, and some time on your computer,
that's how we all learned :-)
However, if once you're learned something you can't get it to work and have
some question, feel free to post it on the svlug list, and someone should be
able to help you out.
