     My parents come from a land where most of the doctors, nearly half
the accountants, and nearly half the managers in non-physically demanding
industries were women.  I am very much pro equal opportunity. 

     From an intellectual abilities point of view, a business opportunity
point of view, women are equivalent to men if they so chose to be treated. 
NASA and others have found that they have higher coordination between the
hemispheres of their brains, making them more intelligent in many ways. 

     From an American legal point of view, not an equality point of view,
women get preferential rights in court in some cases.  I see nothing wrong
with that within reason, given the added role of nurturing that most women
_chose_ to take on. By the way, although women are more sensitive and tend
to be less strong, they are also one hell of a lot tougher than men are,
as NASA found out.  They are Far more capable of withstanding pain and
loss of blood, and G forces. This little discovery puzzled them till they
realized that women give birth, a painful and bloody process that is
essential to the survival of Humanity.

     It is for these reasons, that most early human societies were
matrilineal, with property being owned by women, and passed on to her
children.  Men's property was, upon death, shared with his mother's
daughters and their daughters.  It was only when males started engaging in
wars during prolonged famines, etc., that the importance of males rose
within society.  Much, I think, to the detriment of society in general. 

      People are not equivalent; each has strengths and weaknesses, but
the ranges you find in each category overlap, even though the norms may be
shifted slightly this way or that way.  We need to treat each other more
on the basis of our abilities and interests, rather than our gender.  But
in some areas, women are special, and should be given added consideration
and deference, where they wish it.  They are, after all, the bedrock this
and all civilizations are based upon. 

     It is my personal belief that women make a lot better business people
than aggressive men, for although single men are more prone to engage in
high risk ventures that are, in addition to producing some spectacular
successes, also produce a high proportion of at times spectacular
failures.  This is not surprising since the term economics is based on the
words for home management.  (And this propensity towards good home
management can be verified by a glance at any bachelor's pad, such as, um,
mine...) 

     It takes men and women to create a civilization; and people tend to
do best, that which they enjoy doing most.  That is why I believe that
equal opportunity is the best policy; but those who chose to raise
children do deserve additional consideration under the law.
