Unfortunately, this doesn't always work. My choir director sent out a form
in Word97 format, and I shot him back a message asking for it in plain
text. His reply: "Huh? I don't know what that means." He had no idea of
file formats; he just created the form that he wanted, and sent it out.

I was able to sit down with him and explain the problems of using
proprietary file formats in email, and he's a much better netizen now. But
can we really do that in every case?
