The easiest answer is to write a shell script that reads dump's output on
stdin, and flushes it to tape. Every <size of tape>, you prompt the user
to put in the next tape. This is not the most basic of shell scripts;
perl or C may be required. I know it can be done, though. This way, you
can go ahead and have one huge 60GB partition.

Rick Moen has a web page detailing the changeover. You gain quite a bit,
and you'll also have to do all the same things for 2.2 if you want to
switch to that, anyway.
