Been there (on a Sony 505G no less, oh, I believe *sweet* is an
understatement. :-)
If Sony hasn't changed much of the internals, life won't be too bad.
Problem: The PCMCIA/CardBus control is too new for most installations.
Well, that isn't exactly correct. The driver will probably think you have
two "slots," for cards, of which you don't. Oh well, it's not fatal.
You'll probably have problems if you try to use an ethernet card that is
too new for your Linux distrobution to know about. The 3c575 is supported
under Linux, but I (unknowningly) bought the 3c575BT, thinking it would be
the same, it wasn't. It's now supported with the latest PCMCIA software
though.
In any case, just juse a traditional PCMCIA ethernet card, it should just
work. If you don't have access to one, I can bring one to an installfest
and help get you running.
Once you have your installation done:
ftp to hyper.stanford.edu
cd /pub/pcmcia
if 3.0.6 is out, get it, compile, and install
else
cd NEW
get the latest file, compile, and install
if you have any trouble, let me know, I'll try to help you to the best of
my ability.
If you have any questions about NFS, I can answer that too. If you want to
do this at an installfest, let me know.
