[svlug] Lions and Tigers and Networks

hey all,
	i just bought a (sweet) Sony 505F that i would like to network with
my desktop.  i would rather not have to buy an ethernet hub, if a crossed
line cable would work ok.  question is, i guess, how hard is this to do, and
how would i generally go about it?  unfortunately, i know jack about
networks, but i'd love to learn.  also, how good is linux support for pcmcia
chipsets these days? there are quite a few warnings floating around the
howto's...thanks!
