[svlug] ping and telnet issue

i have rh5.1 installed.  i have 3 machines networked together.  now 2
of the 3 machines were "install everything" and the last one was
limited installation(no ftp/gopher server).

i can ping all my machines and vice versa.

on my limited installation machine, when i do "route" it displays my
loopback and eth0 and then waits.

when i try to telnet to my "limited installation machine" i get
"trying 101.101.x.x." then "connected to machine name", then the
"issue" and no login prompt.

does this mean that cuz i did not install the ftp/gopher server i will
not be able to telnet into the box?
