The more I read the more interesting it gets:

http://www.wired.com/news/news/technology/story/16107.html

"It will let a lot of kids discover computers," he said. "Some may become
little hackers."

One link from above:
http://www.riverdale.k12.or.us/ with a new logo I haven't seen yet:

K-12 Linux

http://www.riverdale.k12.or.us/linux/k12linux/ That's courageous for a
school.

I wonder if we as a group could take a project on our hands to convert
some older PCs into usable machines in some local school. I participated
in two different school projects in the past:

school day sponsored in part by Sun Microsystems, which was about wiring
the classrooms in east San Jose in 1996

and installing Novel system in one school in Cupertino. My former manager
insisted to donate a whole system, PCs and Novel 3.11 :-( in 1995

Installfest in school for a change? People bring in their home systems
and we upgrade the school systems at the same time.

Of course this idea is not new and has been done before by Portland Linux
User's Group (P.L.U.G.) and others.
