There is a program called "xanim" which can play
quicktime movies and it comes with Redhat Linux
(and other distributions.) However some codecs in
there have restricted licenses so Redhat does not
provide them but you can get the full thing from
their contrib ftp site.

I remember there being a program which would redirect
netscape plugins to equivalent standalone apps. It
was posted to freshmeat a while back but I forget the
name.
