Seems that your telnet takes time to "time out" on the name resolution. I
assume you don't run DNS. Make machines listed in /etc/hosts and check
/etc/nsswitch.conf to have
hosts: files
and nothing else (unless of course you are using NIS or DNS).
Other entries in that file should be similar too. Seems to me that RH puts
all possible options in there which interferes in your case.

If it's a changer how do you mount all disks? One at the time right? On
the other hand you would need to send a special command to select another
CD, i.e. a different volume on the same SCSI ID. Again, I'm assuming you
are using SCSI.
