Take a look for my boss from LBL this summer, William (Bill) Saphir. He's
the head of the Future Technologies Group at LBL, and the main Linux/cluster
person there. He's got a 32-node research cluster of Pentium II systems
running Linux, and is developing a variety of cluster software. He is one
of the co-authors of the MPI spec, which he'll be giving a talk on at the
conference. (I think he's also presenting something about Linux and clusters,
though I'm not positive of that.)
He may be there with Patrick (Pat) Bozeman, of the same group, who's
completed an implementation of the VIA spec in the Linux kernel, and is
also a Linux cluster developer.
If you want to hear about Beowulf specifically, you can probably find
Donald Becker; I think he's going. But I do think that the two people I
mentioned are worthwhile people to ask about Linux (and supercomputing in
general).
Have fun at SC98!

He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do." And they
said, "Nay, but we will have a king over us, that we also may be like all the
nations." (1 Sam 8) http://ishmael.geecs.org/~sigma/ http://www.loyalty.org/
