Subject: Problems installing Redhat 4.2
Chris,
I appeared at the Install Workshop today after 3:00 and due to the late
hour was unable to get help with my Linux installation problem. It was
suggested I email a synopsis of the problem and I would be inundated
with suggestions of solutions. If this is not the correct place to
state my problem please let me know.
Several months ago I purchased the Redhat 4.2 OS CD ROM set. I installed
it on my Dell 233MMX system but had problems booting it up.
I partitioned my disk with Partition Magic and have the OS/2 Boot
Manager loaded on /hda3. Linux is loaded on partitions /hda4, 6, 7, and
8.
I then went through the Redhat Linux installation steps. The final step
is "LILO Installation".
Since I already have a boot manager, I was unsure whether I needed to
install LILO. I attempted to install it on the first sector of the root
partition ( /hda4 ) and it reports the error:
"An error occurred during step "Install bootloader" of the install.
If I then skip the LILO Installation step, the installation states that
the installation is done:
"Congratulations, installation is complete."
When I then remove the boot disk and reboot and choose the Linux OS from
the OS/2 Boot Manager menu, the following message appears:
"Selected partition is not formatted."
However, I formatted all of the Linux partitions during the install.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install LILO? If you need more
info, please let me know.
Thanks,
Verne
