Stock 5.0 has problems. 5.0 + all upgrades was decent. 5.1 + patches should
also be ok (I haven't completed my upgrade yet).

Glibc is the future and is definitely usable now. A few old programs won't
compile out of the box, but it seldom takes more than 10mn to fix the source
(remove the offending "include <linux/xxx.h>" and paste back into the source
whatever definition(s) the program needed).

Debian 2.0 is also glibc based. It is a different distribution, but you'll
have similar glibc compilation problems with old source programs.

Suse is still using libc5, and is planning to switch for their next release
(if I remember well). They're more conservative, which may be good for some
people, but I personally try to avoid libc5 systems now because many
precompiled programs on the net are compiled against glibc (which is an
annoyance if you want to install precompiled rpms or debian packages).
But then, you can always recompile.

Suse also has a different policy than Redhat on which software they include,
so you'll find more packages, including KDE. As for configuration, they also
have yast (yet another system tool?), but then RH 5.1 has linuxconf.

Now, you get to choose :-)
