hi ya..

just for fun...was time for me to upgrade anyway....on my own
machine...

#
# ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/4.03/shipping/english/unix/linux20
# navigator_standalone/navigator-v403-export.x86-unknown-linux2.0.tar.gz
# base_install/communicator-v403-export.x86-unknown-linux2.0.tar.gz

planet:/usr2# ftp ftp.netscape.com....blah..blah...
#
planet:/usr2# mkdir communicator-v403.xvf
planet:/usr2# cd communicator-v403.xvf
planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# tar zxvf ../communicator-v403-export.x86-unknown-linux2.0.tar.gz

planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# ./ns-install

executables/libs winds up in /usr/local/netscape by default...
( I have partitioned my system to use symlinks to /usr2 )

planet:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults# cp /usr/local/netscape/Netscape.ad Netscape

planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# vi /etc/ld.so.conf
	...blah...blah...
/usr/local/netscape	# add the Netscape directory
or where-ever you put it to the list
planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# ldconfig -p
planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# ldconfig -v

planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# ./netscape
	yup...netscape ( communicator-v403 ) works fine....

planet:/usr2/communicator-v403# ./netscape-dynMotif
	./netscape-dynMotif: can't load library 'libXm.so.1.2'

	- this is true... since my libs are fairly old...
		/usr/local/lib/libXm.so.0.36

		- and no, I don't plan to run motif-based apps...

so again, netscape works fine for me...with the exception of
the stupid buserrors...

c ya
alvin
...hope I made all the changes in the right places...
