The latter may be true; but we do have Linux itself running. While
not a gracefully iced cake, it is a loaf of bread. Putting icing on the
loaf won't look that nice... but is better than nothing.

I suppose worst case would be to set up one of my other boxes as a
Win95 box and LANs/linux it to the notebook, using their monitor and keyboard.
Looks more awkward than it really is... and kind of backwards using a
notebook to serve a browser on a faster Win/95 mini-tower...

But, given the same problem is on both Linux machines, I think there is
more to it than a clean install. One curious point is the tilde at the
end of the name of the cache file in both error messages, which does not
exist on the names of the files on disk.

Didn't run last time on the desktop. Heck that desktop wouldn't run
reliably with the Diamond Stealth card even on the Bios level 3 our of 4
cold starts would work. So I swapped it out.

Seems I have configuration problems on both machines then... BUT I
really want to rule out hardware first, so I'll pick up a diagnostics
program tomorrow. Which one do you recommend?

Our nations second greatest asset (behind our minds,) is the idle time of
our computers. Let us find a use for it that puts Linux on the map.
(It will also show MS Slothware as our Nation's Greatest Folly!)
