Tue Dec 2 21:30:11 PST 2008

Join the Silicon Valley Linux Users Group (SVLUG) this coming Wednesday
to
learn about wireless mesh networking from Thomas Belote.

WHEN:
Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008
7pm-9pm

MAIN PRESENTATION:
Wireless Mesh Networking and Mobile Ad Hoc Networking

PRESENTED BY:
Thomas Belote

TOPIC SUMMARY:

As a grad student at SJSU Thomas worked on Wireless Mesh Networking and
Mobile Ad Hoc Networking. The talk will compare solutions like OLSR and
Microsoft's sorta open source Mesh Connectivity Layer (though it doesn't
run on Linux). He will discuss why WDS is not sufficient and a mesh
protocol is needed, and discuss the lack of openness thus far in 802.11s
even though it is included in the OLPC, as well as security issues that
he is still researching.

 NIFTY OF THE MONTH:
None this month.

 LOCATION:

   Symantec (formerly Veritas Software Corp.)
   VCAFE Facility
350 Ellis Street (near E. Middlefield Road)
   Mountain View, CA 94043

Directions on how to get there are listed at:
   http://www.svlug.org/directions/veritas.php

We've tried our very best for these directions to be accurate.
If you have any improvements to make, please let SVLUG's volunteers
know!

 MEETING REFRESHMENTS:

None planned for this meeting.

 POST-MEETING GATHERING:

If you just can't get enough, a smaller group usually goes to a local
restaurant/diner after the meeting. We'll announce the restaurant
   selection at the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you there!
