[Speakers] BAFUG interested in speaker pool

Ossb.org (open source speakers bureau) is available.
Re: moving the list -- we'd need to also do other work. The problem is,
we still need a way to coordinate, among interested LUG members, who the
speaker will be for each LUG for each month. The protocol we have right
now for the speakers list takes care of that, but won't work for a truly
shared list. If anyone wants to enhance the protocol (maybe by
prepending a group name to the CONFIRMED subject etc.), then the list
might be more movable and sharable. But next we'll have volume
problems.
What I'd really like to see is a CGI to handle votes on speakers as well
as confirmations, generate RSS so that groups can populate their web
pages, etc. The SVLUG speakers data flow right now is horribly broken;
after confirmation, Joyce digs the talk and bio out of the speakers list
archives, manually edits the SVLUG home page, and manually edits the
meetings page. Then I later manually cut and paste Joyce's text from
the web page into an XML document, which I then run a Perl script
against to generate the monthly announcement mail. Then Margaret
manually extracts from that email text to notify the Merc. Then I later
go back and edit the mail to add the REMINDER tag on the subject and
resend it the day before the meeting. Way too much manual repetition in
there, every month. And I usually forget to do my parts early enough.
We can't even cron any of this in the state it's in right now.
I keep threatening to automate large chunks of the process, and the XML
code was a start. It would be worth doing if we were doing something
with a much wider audience, and the amount of work would be about the
same -- I'd go ahead and make it global.
