Hi Rick -

Yes, that's what I thought. For me, it's now irrelevant, since at this
very moment I'm installing Debian Lenny on the laptop I had Fedora 13
on for the last couple of weeks.

But that would be a nice project for someone with Fedora installed.

It's completely normal that you lose data on "Windows" platforms.
That's why you have a UNIX or Linux or BSD server for backups.
