[Smaug] Felton LUG meeting Saturday

I downloaded FC 10 and burnt a CD yesterday. My review is a bit
negative, because:

I have 2 desktop computers with a VIA CPU chip. The installer quits
very early, complaining about an unsupported instruction. A web search
found there are a number of CPUs that have this problem, made by AMD
and other manufacturers, as well as VIA. (I have that list at home,
I'm not there now).

I have a Dell server and a gBox computer, which don't have this
problem, but both freeze up while trying to identify an appropriate
screen mode. These use the same older Samsung flat-panel display, and
both have some kind of S3 display controller (but different models).
Sometimes I can get a shell during the process, and substitute an
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file from an earlier distro, but this is difficult
to do (I actually haven't tried the Dell yet with Ferora 10, since
it's a server I don't often turn off. Once upon a time it ran Fedora
1). This problem is common to recent Ubuntu releases. An Ubuntu
alternate install simplifies fixing this when actually installing, but
this is not available (yet??) for Fedora 10.

I have an Averatec 3280 laptop for which the same thing happens with
recent Ubuntu and Fedora 10. Debian 4.0, stable or unstable, works
fine in this regard.

And I have 3 old desktop boxes with older Pentiums (II?) or AMD cpus
of an older generation. I didn't bother trying these!

Not too encouraging!
