[Smaug] Merry X-mas/Ubuntu

Hey Guys,
Merry Christmas!

I am glad to see SMAUG still running strong, as we all just passed the 7th
SMAUG birthday.  I still must address the Iiony that I arranged us to meet
leaders in the linux revolution at SCO....

Anyhow, after a long break from tech, I am skirting my way slowly back into
it.  As you may know the reason I suddenly ran out of time for SMAUG was the
fact that I got laid off from my tech job, and had to go into sales.  Well
now I am back to it.  Updating certs, getting back into the swing of
things... To my story:

Just a few days ago I decided it was time to get linux up and running on
something again.  I remember my first foray with linux... It involved "corel
linux" and a PITA time figuring out why my winmodem wasn't functioning.
This took my 1 hour of downloading an AMD 64 Ubuntu ISO, 5 minutes to boot
and about 10 to install...  WOW... no problems ...  Everything just
worked... Updates are automatic...  it's amazing how consumer ready linux
is, and I think the linux community as a whole should be proud of
themselves.

Installfests are nearly a moot point now...  Linux has moved from hobby to
desktop operating system... (while it still can function as a hobby-the
point is it doens't have to!)
