I can't really speak for anyone other than myself, but does anyone
actually care if you can tell what CMS generated the code for the site?

This sounds like an argument for modernity v. postmodernity and I'm
not able to see the application to implementing a more effective site
for the group.

This argument has been made a thousand times with respect to user
interfaces.  A familiar user interface is frequently more useful than
an innovative one.
