A few netiquette tips:
1. When someone sends you private e-mail, do not lob copies to
public mailing lists.
2. When someone sends you mail marked "off-list", do not lob copies
to public mailing lists.
3. When someone says "Please pardon my sending you this from a different
address; I'll be back at my regular address this evening", do not
lob copies to public mailing lists.
4. When someone sets the Reply-To header _specifically_ to keep your
replies off-list and in private e-mail, do not manually override
that, to lob copies to public mailing lists.
Perhaps you begin to see the pattern.
While I'm at it:
5. Quote _only_ the portions of prior messages to which you're replying.
Put your reply text _below_ the quoted text to which it pertains.
This business of a "-----Original Message-----" line followed by the
_entire_ preceding thread is discourteous to everyone else, and makes
you look like a drooling idiot in public.
If you cannot figure out how to configure your MUA (Mail User Agent)
to correctly quote prior messages, switch to one you _can_ configure
correctly, or please stay the hell off the Internet until you can.
These matters used to be part of the background acculturation of all
Internet users. But then came 1993, the September That Never Ended
(the year AOL opened its Usenet gateway), and the Clue Standard has
been devalued in most places.
_But_, I expect Linux users to rise above the 2001-standard moron level.
Please.
