Kaleidescape is seeking an experienced and self-motivated IT professional
who has a passion for customer service and real-world information systems
technology to join our team in Sunnyvale, California. The successful
candidate will extend and maintain all aspects of our computing environment
including our local area network, production datacenter and storage and
communications systems that keep our valued employees productive.

the wherewithal to pull it off. The IT Operations Engineer will take
primary responsibility for the care and feeding of the critical networks
and systems that make up the organization's computing and communications
toolset.

Candidates should possess highly effective communications skills and be
able to manage and prioritize customer requests for assistance. Successful

delivering great technology experiences for both our internal and external
customers.

Occasional travel to our offsite datacenter in Santa Clara, California will
be necessary.

Responsibilities

* System Administration of Linux and Windows Server physical and virtual
systems with a strong emphasis on automated management, monitoring and
deployment tools.

* Provide administration and monitoring support to ensure that our
production systems can scale to a growing customer base while maintaining
100% uptime.

* Help implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery processes.

* Help operate and maintain our growing communications and networking
infrastructure.

* Provide local, hands-on assistance to users and manage the
adds/moves/changes associated with activities in these areas: LAN/WAN,
telephony, networking, Windows and Open Source desktop and server support,
messaging, storage systems, etc.

* Help implement and maintain IT technologies that improve the security,
scalability and reliability of the Company's computing resources.

* Participate in on-call rotations as the first responder for data center
alerts that are assigned and shared by members of the team.

Operational Experience with the following (or similar) types of Systems and
Technologies

* Experience working in a mission-critical datacenter colocation site. Must
be familiar with common enterprise server

* Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS/Open Source OSs. Must be able to setup,
manage and monitor Linux standalone servers. Experience with automation
would be an asset.

* Common scripting technologies such as Bash, Perl, PHP, python, etc. 
with an
emphasis on using these tools to automate common or repetitive
administration tasks.

* Knowledge of Apache and Tomcat Servers with administration and tuning
experience of same.

* Configuration and maintenance of database sources i.e. PostgreSQL, MSSQL,
MySQL. Experience with clustered database administration would be an asset.

* Managed Network Switches, Routers and Firewalls and automated 
monitoring of
same.

* Experience with network routing protocols like BGP (Internal and External)
and OSPF

* Familiarity with network troubleshooting including common switching and
routing issues, an understanding of the OSI model, and deft with packet
capture and analysis tools like Wireshark

* Knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery best practices.

* Familiarity with load-balanced server pool design, multi-site traffic
balancing and failover.

* Basic administration of NetApp NAS/SAN and other storage architectures 
such
as NFS, GlusterFS and GPFS.

* Administration of VMware Virtual Infrastructure, RedHat Enterprise
Virtualization or related.

* Administration of Microsoft Windows Active Directory Server 
Environment and
use of automated management and deployment tools for same.

* Strong knowledge of IT services and protocols such as DNS, SMTP, DHCP,
HTTP, TCP/IP, SSL, NFS, syslog, etc.

is preferred.

* A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or
Engineering disciplines is desired but not strictly required.
