Box is looking for a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to support our
rapidly-growing cloud storage service.  At Box, storage is a web service
running on Linux servers with large attached disk arrays, replicated to
multiple datacenters by our application.  You will play an integral part
in the growth of our storage system to the multi-petabyte level, by
improving the resilience, security, reliability, and performance of this
core system for our company.  This is an exciting opportunity at a great

management of customer file storage at enormous scale.
 
Responsibilities:
Automate management of a large production Linux-based web service which
provides back-end storage for the Box collaboration service.  Improve
consistency and efficiency by reducing manual work.
Troubleshoot complex multi-tier service problems and participate in
production incident response.
Contribute to the evolving architecture of our storage service to meet
changing requirements for scaling, reliability, performance,
manageability, and price.
Develop monitoring tools which accurately notify the operations team of
service problems.
Create utilization reports to assist with capacity planning and
equipment purchasing.
Coordinate with datacenter operations team to facilitate hardware
repairs and disk replacement.
Coordinate with network operations team to manage bandwidth and
troubleshoot throughput problems.
Work with hardware vendors to troubleshoot equipment problems, and
validate new hardware configurations.
Provide feedback and support to engineering software developers working
on storage service applications.
Train operations staff to support storage services.

Qualifications:
Strong Linux system administration skills with emphasis on filesystems
and system performance tuning.
Solid basis in systems management automation using industry-standard
open-source tools such as Python, Perl, PHP, Bash, Puppet.
Experience operating high-volume web services (knowledge of Apache HTTP
Server and Nginx preferred).
Good knowledge of RAID fundamentals and popular enterprise RAID HBAs
(experience with LSI MegaRAID controllers preferred).
Familiarity with rsync and principles of data back-up.
Basic understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP, routing and switching required.
Responsible and meticulous approach to work.
Team player with good communication skills and ability to perform under
fire.
Some knowledge of MySQL databases and cloud storage would be a plus.
2+ years experience in a production 24/7 environment required (not
necessarily storage specific)
