build out and deliver the high availability services that support our
development and production environments.

DevOps Engineer

Ness is looking for a site reliability engineer to design and implement our
development operations and production environments. We are strong advocates
for the DevOps movement and in this role you will work closely with the
Engineers that build our core applications and platforms.

*The Role:*

Your responsibility will be to take a hands-on leadership role to design,
build and maintain the system‐level environment (operating systems &
networking infrastructure) that enables our application platform to grow
and scale, and the IT infrastructure that enables the team to work. As part
of the engineering team, you will design, build, and maintain the
automation that allows a small team to manage a large number of systems.

*Qualifications:*

   - You know your way around Linux systems and are comfortable in
   maintaining a large‐scale service platform.
   - You understand and can configure a router, a switch, and a firewall
   - Familiar with Cloud environments (i.e. AWS)
   - Self-starter and curious; you only need to read a book or website to
   become familiar with a new tool or technology
   - You can document what you have built on a Wiki and can communicate
   this to colleagues
   - Comfortable with bash scripting; able to program in Ruby, Perl, or
   Python
   - Hands‐on engineer; you will be writing code, logging into machines;
   changing configurations, and even racking new hardware
   - Two-plus years of experience working as a systems engineer or systems
   administrator
   - Designed and built Linux-based systems at startups
   - Experience with RedHat Linux, CentOS, or Ubuntu servers

*Preferred:*

   - Industry qualifications: RHCE, RHCA, CCNE
   - Knowledge of automation tools such as Puppet or Chef
   - Database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
   - JVM (Java virtual machine) know how
   - BS or MS in Computer Science or related field

   - IT Infrastructure: MacOS‐based desktops and laptops
   - Networking, firewalls, and VPN (Cisco, Juniper)
   - Cloud-based services (AWS, Gmail, github)
   - Experience with NoSQL data stores
   - Contribution to open source projects
   - Knowledge of distributed data analysis environments like Hadoop/Mahout
   or MapReduce/Sawzall
   - Knowledge of one functional programming language
