Kernel Engineer

IO Turbine, founded by Silicon Valley veterans, is an early stage
software company in stealth mode and backed by some key Silicon Valley
angel investors including Andy Bechtolsheim and David Cheriton, and
top tier VCs Lightspeed Venture Partners and Merus Capital. The
company, comprising a top tier corporate and legal team, will do the
requisite visa processing for candidates requiring status change.

If you are driven to build a highly parallel and scalable storage
system, this may be the opportunity you were looking for. This
position is for a Kernel Engineer with 3+ years of experience. You
will work on architecture, design and product definition that leads
and influences decisions and outcomes related to project direction.

Qualifications:

    * A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer
Science, a Masters degree, or a PhD or equivalent experience is
required

    * Proficiency in C/C++, ability to debug at assembly level, data
structures and kernel debugging techniques required

    * Kernel level development experience (as opposed to driver work).
Experience with parallel and distributed algorithms to scale systems
from machine level to application

    * Operating System internals: Caching, virtual memory management,
schedulers, paging, swapping development experience a must

    * Strong threading, multi-threading and parallelization background

    * Sound understanding of CPU, machine, and instruction set architectures

    * Background in computer architecture and virtualization would be
a strong plus

    * Background in storage systems would be a strong plus

    * Database (e.g. Oracle) development experience a plus

    * Must have full commitment to sound software engineering
practices and a passion for quality

Job Responsibilities:

* Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers and have strong
influencing and leadership skills

* Ability to work on complex issues where analysis situations or data
requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors

    *  A major part of your responsibility in the design and
development of our server system will be to participate in any and/or
all phases of the product development cycle from product definition
and design, through implementation including:

·         Testing

·         Test automation

·         Debugging

·         Reliability

·         Performance analysis

·         Critical and/or high visibility customer support

    * The tasks this individual is responsible for are often
unstructured, have wide implications and have are multiple outcomes

    * This individual will apply broad expertise or unique
technical/industry knowledge in solving problems that are unique and
extremely complex given time, budget and resource constraints

    * Demonstrate leadership and vision in determining and driving
strategy decisions

    * This individual must work effectively with staff to
vice-president level employees within the function, across functions
and with external parties

    * Limited supervision is provided, as this individual can operate,
drive results, and set priorities independently

    * The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject
matter expert

    * To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable
results through leadership and influencing multiple individuals and
groups Often acts as mentor or facilitator
